Group Consultation Success

The South Somerset West Primary Care Network held their first Group Consultation clinic, focussed on
Diabetes, at Crewkerne Community Hospital recently.

Group clinics are a way for clinicians to see and support several people with similar health needs, such as diabetes, high cholesterol or asthma all at the same time. Group clinics can be held in person or online, offering flexibility and accessibility for patients.

By bringing together individuals with similar experiences, it help reduce feelings of loneliness and create a sense of community. Many patients find reassurance in this and appreciate the chance to share stories and connect with others who truly understand. Group discussions allow patients to learn from one another and hear answers to questions they may not have thought to ask themselves.

Another significant advantage is that by seeing multiple patients with similar conditions in a single session, clinicians can reduce the need to repeat the same information, freeing up time for more complex cases or other responsibilities.

The South Somerset West Primary Care Network comprises Symphony South Healthcare (Buttercross Health Centre, Crewkerne Health Centre, Hamdon Medical Centre and Martock & South Petherton Medical Centre).
