The Symphony research team are delighted to announce the completion of a new research room.
NHS research is fundamental to improving patient care, innovation, and access to new treatments. The National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) is the primary body funding and supporting research within the NHS.
Katherine Foster, Lead Research Nurse for Symphony, said “the new dedicated space based at Ilchester Surgery, will enable us to take on more studies in the future. The secured funding has allowed us to purchase state of the art equipment such as a new high tech refrigerated centrifuge and a new -80’c freezer for our lab room; and a fully equipped clinical room to provide full medical assessments for our study patients whatever the requirements. This new space is pivotal for carrying out the required activities for each study and is a vital asset for the team to be successful in future bids. We are also lucky enough that when we start studies we are often given access to up and coming equipment not readily available in healthcare to carry out certain assessments, this is demonstrated by the laser camera in the photos which allowed us to measure the exact cm2 of leg ulcers as part of a recent study we were part of to measure their healing outcomes.”
The refurbishment has been funded by The NIHR Research Delivery Network following a successful application where the team demonstrated why the money was needed, and was opened last month following the arrival of their lovely new sign!
