On 1 April 2020, Exmoor Medical Centre joined SHS and is the tenth surgery to become a part of the organisation.
Exmoor Medical Centre is a small rural practice on the edge of the Somerset county and supports nearly 3,900 patients. Due to the practices location and size, it has previously struggled with recruitment and therefore becoming a part of a larger organisation provided the surgery with ongoing stability and support.
38 out of 65 practices (58%) in Somerset have a list size smaller than the average (8,985) and arguably, the difficulties that these surgeries have in maintaining sustainable services is increased due to scale.
However since the practice has integrated into SHS, the surgery has been able to fill its GP vacancies and has also started to expand its multidisciplinary team with an Advanced Nurse Practitioner, who is also a member of the RCN Advanced Practice Credentialing Register
